Online Accommodations COVID-19

What do I need to know about remote instructions?

Faculty – Moving from face-to-face instruction to an online teaching and learning environment involves many changes that can impact your students. In this time of transition, it is important to consider how students with disabilities will be affected by changes in technology, pedagogy, and content that a shift to online instruction may necessitate. Changes to a learning context can adversely affect the teaching and learning opportunities that students and faculty have if we do not consider disability and accessibility.

Will I continue to receive my approved accommodations if my course is now online?

Yes. Students approved for accommodations through OARS will continue to receive their accommodations. At times, however, specific accommodations may not transition equitably to an online format. Contact OARS (336.334.5440/oars@uncg.edu if you have questions related to a specific accommodation.

What do I do if I am having difficulty fully accessing materials online? Can I update my accommodations?

Yes. Accommodations arranged for in-person courses may not be applicable or compatible with instruction occurring in an online environment. Students having difficulty accessing course content due to the change in format should contact oars@uncg.edu for additional support and/or request additional accommodations.

Can I register with OARS if I have not already?

Yes. We understand that some students with disabilities may have elected to not register their disability previously with OARS, and may wish to do so at this time. To begin, please register HERE.

If I am a new incoming student for Fall 2020, will my information still be processed during this transition period?

Documentation will continue to be accepted and processed by OARS staff daily.
